“Make a small blue robot.”
Describe its shape, size, and colors to ask for a new creation.
“Round the corners of this part.”
Identify a part by name or location and ask for changes to its shape or color.
“Make the propeller spin.”
Describe which part should move and how you want it to move.
Available actions depend on the world’s mode and the part. Review previews before asking to finalize new creations or part edits. Some actions, including deletion, can take effect immediately, so identify what you want changed.
02 · SET UP
You need COCO CHARA, an internet connection, a Google account that can access Google AI Studio, and your own Gemini API key. For your first attempt, start with a solo world you open yourself.
An API key is a string that lets COCO CHARA access Gemini using your account’s API allowance. It is separate from your Google password.
Open Google AI Studio’s API Keys page (new tab). Sign in with Google and review any first-time terms.
A project and key may already be created for a new user. To create another, choose “Create API key” and follow the dialog to select or create a project. A project groups usage and billing.
Open the key’s details and copy it. The destination is the API key field in COCO CHARA’s AI Settings. Do not paste it into a chat message.
If an existing Cloud project is missing, use “Dashboard” → “Projects” → “Import projects,” then return to “API Keys.” Google’s official key guide
From COCO CHARA’s main menu, open “AI Settings” and find the In-game Chat AI section.
Set the AI provider to “Gemini API.” Paste the key into the API key field: click and press Ctrl+V on Windows, or long-press and select Paste on Android.
Start with the default “Standard Model” shown in the app. To try creation with that model, turn High-Quality AI Editing OFF. Turning it ON attempts to use a separate model for creation. Model access and pricing depend on Google’s conditions.
Enable encrypted key storage on this device to reuse the key after restarting. With storage OFF, the key lasts only until the app closes and must be entered again next time.
Choose “Save Settings,” then “Test Connection.” Wait for “Connected: Gemini is available.” You can then close settings.
Keep your key private, like a password. If you enable key storage, it is encrypted on your device and is not saved on COCO CHARA’s servers or in worlds. Chat and world information needed for creation are sent to Google.
03 · IN THE GAME
Open the world you want to work in. A new empty world is a good place to learn the controls.
Press the “💬” button. On Windows, Enter also opens the input. Repeated presses of “💬” cycle through input, input with history, and closed.
Press “AI OFF” beside the input so it becomes “AI ON.” Messages sent in this state are requests to the AI. With AI OFF, messages are ordinary chat.
Try this:
Make a small blue robot. Show me a preview first.
Press “Send” and wait for the reply. On Windows, Enter also sends your message. While a request is processing, wait instead of sending it repeatedly.
Check the shape and colors in the game. Ask “Make the head rounder” to revise it, “Finalize this” to accept it, or “Discard this preview” to cancel. Keep AI ON when sending follow-up requests.
Check that you selected Gemini API, entered a key, and saved AI Settings from the main menu. Run Test Connection as well.
Check that chat is set to AI ON. If processing is in progress, wait. If an error appears, review the connection and your API allowance.
Check that the entire key was copied without extra spaces and that your internet connection works. For authentication errors, check the key in AI Studio; for usage-limit errors, check your allowance. If Gemini is busy, wait and try again.
It clears the Gemini conversation and cancels a request in progress. It does not undo changes already applied to the world. Use it when you want to start a fresh conversation.
In-game Chat AI uses the Gemini API key entered in the app. You do not need to register an MCP server. To use an external AI app instead, see the MCP connection guide.
Switch chat to AI OFF for ordinary messages. To disable the feature, set the AI provider to OFF in the main menu’s AI Settings and save.
